Ahead of the new series of Death in Paradise starting 9pm Tuesday 14 January on BBC One, a behind-the-scenes video from the set of episode 1 has been released.

The video includes interviews with Kris Marshall, Helen Baxendale and Sophie Thompson and although it doesn’t contain spoilers on the big news, if you read on below the video you will find out the twist.

It has been revealed was revealed today that lead detective of the popular tropical murder show, Death In Paradise, DI Richard Poole, is to be murdered himself in a surprising opening twist to the first episode of the new series on BBC One.

Fans will see that DI Poole, played by actor and comedian Ben Miller, has met his untimely end as a result of an ice pick to the chest and become the victim in the first episode’s murder investigation. The detective investigating Poole’s murder will be new lead detective, DI Humphrey Goodman, played by My Family and Love Actually actor, Kris Marshall, to solve the cryptic crime.

He’ll be joined by series regulars DI Camille Bordey (Sara Martins), Sergeant Fidel Best (Gary Carr), Officer Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules) and Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington).

The new series of Death In Paradise starts on Tuesday 14 January at 9pm on BBC One.
