New film about Liberace out 7 June
Before Elvis, before Elton John, Madonna or Lady Gaga there was Liberace. An infamous pianist and flamboyant star of stage and television, who gained millions of devoted fans across the globe and who’s name was synonymous with showmanship and extravagance.
From Acamey Award winning director Steven Soderbergh, and based on an autobiographical novel, Behind the Candelabra follows the tumultuous relationship between Liberace (Michael Douglas) and his lover Scott Thorson (Matt Damon).
When, in the summer of 1977 the handsome stranger Scott Thorson walked into Liberace’s dressing room, it started a secretive five year long love affair between them – despite their age difference and seemingly different worlds. To the rest of the world Scott was just an employee, and at most a friend to Liberace, but behind closed doors their life was an intense roller coaster of hedonistic fun.
Behind the Candelabra tells the story of their glamorous life and tempestous relationship, from the glitz of the early days in Las Vegas to their very bitter and public break-up.
Behind the Candelabra is out on 7 June.
