Halo: Spartan Assault coming to Windows 8 devices

Today Microsoft and 343 industries have announced the release of Halo: Spartan Assault exclusively for Windows 8 devices this July.

Spartan Assault will be a first for the series, being a top down, isometric shooter.

The game will feature 25 unique missions along with Leader boards to compare scores with friends.

Currently the game will be single player only and will include a range of achievements and medals.

If you already own Halo 4 on Xbox 360 you will be able to link your accounts, to earn experience points for your character there. However these features will be introduced after the games launch.

The game will be playable on any touch screen device or PC that runs Windows 8.

The game marks a return to the PC for the series that has not had an entry on the system since Halo: Combat Evolved was ported over in 2003.

The game will not be the first departure from first person shooting with the release of real time strategy Halo Wars in 2009.
