Two years ago Mojo awarded Richard Thompson the Les Paul award for “Guitar Legend”. He has an OBE and an Ivor Novello award. He is one of the true guitar-greats living today and he is set to release a new album.
Electric will be Thompson’s 40th in 40 years as a solo artist. He has worked with so many of the greats over the years: Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, Gerry Rafferty, Bonnie Raitt, to name a few. Most commonly associated with folk, Thompson has crossed over to many genres including rock and country.
Guests on Electric include Siobhan Maher Kennedy and Alison Krauss. The album is full of diverse influences including bluegrass. Thompson has gone so far as to suggest the album has invented a new genre: “folk-funk”.
