The Dark Knight Rises – £15
Get the must own Blu-ray of the year when The Dark Knight Rises is released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Download from 3 December. In the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, Gotham City is threatened by the masked terrorist Bane, forcing Batman to return from an eight-year absence and fight for his city one more time.
It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.
But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane. Available from HMV
Google Nexus 7 – £199
Want to start streaming all your movies and read all your books on one handy device that doesn’t cost a bomb, while still getting full functionality? Then look no further than the Google Nexus 7. Offering either 32Gb (or 16Gb for £159), wi-fi connectivity and using the fab Android 4.2 Jellybean operating system, this is a device that give you everything you need for much, much less than iPads, a device which is looking increasingly overpriced in our opinion. While the Google Play store doesn’t have as many apps as iTunes store, pretty much all the things you’ll want or need are there, plus with many of the most popular games available for free (with advert funding), you’re saving even more pennies over the Apple equivalent. Available from Google Play
Lovefilm/Netflix/Now TV subscription – from £4.99
If you simply can’t decide what film to buy, you can also go down the movie streaming route and watch as many movies as you can possibly want or manage. But don’t forget you can watch TV episodes too, and Lovefilm also offers (for a higher price) Blu-rays and computer games to rent. Personal preference dictates which provider you go for as they all have exclusive deals with various movie studios, but no matter who you end up with you’re getting value for money.

U and large supply of hardcore games coming to a Nintendo console for the first time in years, such as Batman: Arkham City and Tekken Tag Tournament 2, you’re not going to be short of games to choose from. Plus the unique features of the GamePad mixing up gameplay, sometimes new frontiers like asymmetrical multiplayer, makes this console an interesting proposition. And with the excellent looking Rayman Legends and Pikmin 3 due in a few months, and some time in the future a new HD Zelda and Smash Bros, you’ve got a lot to be excited about long into the future. And the chance to play full games on just the GamePad means you can console games in bed or in the bath, well that’s just amazeballs! Available from Zavvi
