It’s nearly that time again – the National Television Awards are just around the corner. Now the shortlist has been released, who will you be voting for? Take a look at some of the contenders.
The old battle continues with Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Eastenders and Hollyoaks all vying for most popular serial drama. With Coronation Street entering its 40th year on British television, a win would surely make their celebrations all the sweeter. Talent show heavy weights The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent could be in for a surprise final round knockout with plucky newcomers Dancing on Ice and The Voice UK both hungry for a shot at the title. Let’s not forget the most popular drama performer category either – Doctor Who co-stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have gained the honor of being shortlisted for the male and female categories respectively, but will The Doctor and his companion win the day, or will they be taking the TARDIS home empty handed?
The big news this year is the newly created category Best Documentary Series, but will Frozen Planet receive an icy reception or will Big Fat Gypsy Weddings… actually that one works with either.
Add to that a homage to the London 2012 Olympics with the Landmark Award created to pay respect to the biggest stars of the games, and you have a winning formula for fun and excitement.
Voting begins on January 8 and closes midday on January 23.
